Two people, identified as Maicon Ataliba, aged 26, and Ingrid Moreira, aged 19, died after being run over by a pickup truck. The couple was stopped on the shoulder of the ES-010 highway, in Espírito Santo, changing their car’s flat tire.
The driver responsible for the accident appeared at high speed, colliding violently with the vehicle on the shoulder, according to reports from the local press.
There was a third person in Maicon and Ingrid’s car, who was taken to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in Marataízes and is out of danger.
Maicon was also taken to the UPA, but he did not survive his injuries. Ingrid received treatment at Menino Jesus Hospital in a serious condition and died shortly afterwards.
The 35-year-old driver agreed to take a breathalyzer test at the hospital, but, according to information from the Military Police, “he blew the device inefficiently.”
The police found obvious signs of intoxication in the driver, who was arrested for manslaughter while driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
