Marnaval had an appointment with his story on Saturday 19 November at the Charles-Jacquin stadium in Saint-Dizier, with the reception of Bastia, resident in Ligue 2, on behalf of 8And French Cup round.
In front of a fiery crowd and all dressed in red, the Marnavalais, who wanted to create the feat, held on well before cracking in the last 20 minutes to bow (0-3).
For this eighth round of the Coupe de France, Régis Brouard and his troops had no intention of taking this Marnaval team lightly. The pre-match indications of the Corsican coach were clear: to put pace and speed as well as play on the width to make the clubs run.
Marnaval entered the match perfectly and had his first chance after a minute of play. On a good collective movement, Axel Gérard, in a good position, did not deceive Zacharie Boucher (1′).
After this alert, Bastia has control of the ball and tries to make the Marnavalaesi run by exploiting his width.
During this first quarter of an hour, Marnaval did much better than resisting and was little worried. In spite of everything, it was necessary to make a last-minute comeback from winger Corentin Petit at the foot of a course in his own penalty area, to avoid the worst (19′).
The “Black Gueules” responded almost immediately with Axel Gérard who failed to find the target (22′). Enough to get the Charles-Jacquin stadium crowd up.
Marnaval was able to count on his goalkeeper Kévin Royer, imperial in all his interventions, who thus reassured his defense by saving with his foot from a shot by Mamadou Camara (31′).
A few minutes later, Marnaval was in good position, but Axel Gérard pushed his ball too far and could not prevent Zacharie Boucher’s exit.
Bastiais had problems setting pace, while Arnaud Pécheux’s team-mates found solutions in depth. Once again well pitched, Axel Gérard had a golden opportunity to open the scoring. Alone against the Corsican goalkeeper, he loses his duel (35′). maddening!
Well disciplined tactically, Marnaval managed to reach the break with a level score (0-0) to the applause of the crowd. The matter would have been physical for Nord Haut-Marnais in the second half, because Bastia would have had to show another face to round up the 32And of final.
Bastia were determined to quickly make a difference in this second period. Benjamin Santelli’s header from a cross from the left didn’t fool Kévin Royer (48′).
As time passes it is the task of Nord-Haut-Marnais, which struggles to bring danger to the door of the Bastia.
Bastia folds the match in five minutes
On the hour, Régis Brouard injected new life with the entries of Salles-Lamonge, Tavares and Van Den Kerkhof. Attempts by distant visitors did not fly.
The visitors were sharper during this second period, but could not make the decision, until Kävin Schur took over the entire Marnavalaise defense and opened the scoring (0-1, 72′). The Corsicans had just played the hard part before taking home the point five minutes later from Benjamin Santelli from Kévin Van Den Kerkhof’s forehand cross (0-2, 77′).
Tired, the Marnavalais conceded a last goal right at the end of the game, the work of Bigouel Alfarela (03, 90′).
On Saturday the Bastiais knew how to avoid the Marnavalais trap to continue the adventure in the Coupe de France. If Marnaval failed to create the feat, he needn’t be ashamed of his defeat and left the competition with his head held high. This 8And tour has kept all its promises. Spectators were at the height of the event.
