The ultimatum set by ECOWAS to the Nigerien putschists expires Sunday, August 6 in the evening. They have less than 24 hours to restore order. At the same time, a demonstration was held in Paris in support of the ousted president.

In front of the Niger embassy in Paris, a handful came to defend the government they elected. Under their applause, the Prime Minister of the overthrown Nigerien government wishes to address this message to the putschists: “The people of Niger have fought for years for the establishment of democracy and stability. Today, Niger has become a stable democratic state and it is a pity that all this can be called into question by a coup de head, not a coup.”

A military intervention to restore order?

During this time, the pressure increases on the putschists. By Sunday evening, they must restore the president under penalty of a possible military intervention by ECOWAS, bringing together several West African countries. For the moment, the negotiations are still ongoing and supported by the international community, including France. A military decision that could upset the stability of the region.
