Reported by AFP, the coup in the West African region took place on Sunday (5/9/2021) local time. The coup was run by the military of the Special Forces.
“We have decided, after arresting the president, to dissolve the constitution,” a uniformed officer flanked by soldiers carrying assault rifles said in a video sent to AFP.
In another video received by AFP, President Alpha Conde is seen crumpled on a sofa surrounded by soldiers. He refused to answer a question from one about his condition being persecuted or not.
The head of Guinea’s military special forces, Lieutenant Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, appeared on public television, wearing the national flag, citing mismanagement by the government as the reason behind his actions.
“We will no longer entrust politics to one person, we will entrust politics to the people,” the coup leader said.
“Guinea is beautiful. We don’t have to rape Guinea anymore, we just have to make love to her,” Doumbouya added.
