Officially: Jakub Polkowski is leaving TVP. This is the aftermath of… the Przemysław Babiarz affair
Polkowski joined Telewizja Polska in mid-April 2024. For several months, he served as deputy director of programming, replacing Sebastian Staszewski in this position. This was a reinforcement prepared on the occasion of the recent Euro 2024, which was warmly received by viewers and Internet users. However, the adventure of one of the founders of the Foot Truck channel with TVP Sport did not last too long and has just come to an end.
Unofficially, we hear that the reason for this dismissal is absurd and again, as the mantra recently at the TVP headquarters at Woronicza Street, the name is mentioned: Babiarz. It was the recent scandal involving the 60-year-old commentator that was supposed to be the flashpoint that led to Polkowski’s dismissal. Or more precisely, his statement right after the official letter from TVP Sport journalists who stood up for Przemysław Babiarz during the games and demanded that the suspension be lifted was made public.

As we know, the authorities of Telewizja Polska finally changed their minds in the matter and the well-known commentator returned to work, but that is not the key. The most important thing is that although the former deputy director of TVP Sport he did not sign the letter, but he still publicly supported Babiarz, who was still suspended at that time.
“[…] I owe a few words from myself. I learned about this decision on Saturday, like most of you, from this very place, portal X. My decision-making ability on this topic was zero, but I have become one of its faces, although privately I have a different view on this subject, which I presented directly in a message to Przemysław Babiarz,” Polkowski wrote at the time.
“You know the position of the TVP management perfectly well and as the deputy director of TVP Sport, Kuba Kwiatkowski, I did not intend to step out of line, because these were decisions that were not made at the level of my activity. However, conscience and human decency require me to take a public position on this matter, with the awareness of the consequences that lie behind it. That is why I fully support the letter of the TVP Sport editorial office addressed to the General Director of TVP – Mr. Tomasz Sygut, which was published in public today. The voice of my colleagues from the editorial office is also my voice on this topic,” concluded the journalist.
We know who will replace Jakub Polkowski in TVP Sport
It was this entry that was supposed to make Jakub Kwiatkowski decide to make a sensational move, which was to fire his deputy. In a conversation with the director of TVP Sport, Polkowski was supposed to hear that he “chose his own path”. A path going in the opposite direction than the one that Telewizja Polska is following. And it was during this meeting that the founder of the Foot Truck channel he found out that this was the end of cooperation. They didn’t even wait until the end of the Olympic Games. It’s worth mentioning, however, that Kwiatkowski himself claims that the reason for the dismissal is different. He told us about it in the commentary he gave us.
As Przegląd Sportowy Onet has learned, Polkowski is to be replaced by another relatively new face in TVP Sport. This is about Agnieszka Prachniakwhich was brought to the station by the aforementioned Kwiatkowski. Previously, they had worked together in the Polish Football Association (the director of TVP Sport was its spokesman). Later, Prachniak was responsible for the development of the Sports Channel. Now, she is to be Kwiatkowski’s deputy.
