In total, 92 families from communities in Izabal benefited from the delivery of documentation that certifies that they are owners of the land they occupy. The activity was attended by the president Alejandro Giammattei and authorities of the Land Fund (Fontierras).
In addition to offering legal certainty to farmers, the certification will impact the rural, sustainable and comprehensive development of families, noted the Executive Branch.

The winners were 57 families from the Cumbre de San José community, in Morales, and 35 from Guitarras, in Livingston.
The government official urged the residents to produce on the land handed over and reiterated his commitment to provide inputs through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food. (ITSELF).
In addition, he said that the deeds will grant legal certainty, but also the opportunity to improve the quality of life and promote employment. “It’s not the 92 certificates, it’s what it means for people who have fought for more than 20 years to have that role that makes them owners of their land,” she stressed.
According to the president, in less than 8 months, 3,500 land titles have been delivered, which have reached more than 20,000 people. He noted that in Petén forest concessions have doubled in two years, something that had not been achieved in the last 25 years. The head of state thanked Fontierras for the work carried out, because he considered that he had changed the way of managing the programs, which are more agile and at the service of the population.
The Government has delivered 3,500 certifications in 8 months.
As indicated, Fontierras fulfills its vision of being the public agrarian entity that contributes, through access to land, to the integral and sustainable rural development of peasant families, indigenous and non-indigenous, landless or in a situation of poverty.
