The position is anchored in Area 6 of the DRK General Secretariat and assigned to Team 61. Team 61 Operations & National Society Cooperation is responsible for the operational cooperation of the German Red Cross with its sister companies abroad. You are responsible for the portfolio of southern African countries.
The job is full time. The job offer is initially limited to 30 June 2026.
Your tasks:
- Managing DRK projects in Southern Africa with focus on Mozambique and Madagascar, working closely with DRK employees in project countries and teams responsible for specialist topics, finance, human resources, etc.
- Strategic orientation, control, reporting, financial and personnel management, procurement, etc., in close collaboration and coordination with the foreign delegates, the head of the Africa department and the respective departments of the General Secretariat of the DRC
- Development and analysis of planning, financial and cooperation concepts, in particular with regard to the humanitarian situation in partner countries.
- Security management and analysis in coordination with the security department
- Continuous monitoring of political and social changes in the geographical area of responsibility, including the analysis of the possible implications for the specific activities of the country.
- Ensure coordination of all measures with sister companies, the ICRC, the Federation of RKRH companies and other relevant actors
- Preparation of status reports, final reports and decision models, communication with donors
- Acquisition of funds including preparation of project applications
- Reporting, preparation for public relations, presentations and participation in events
We expect that:
- Identification with the principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
- Relevant university / university degree
- Solid knowledge and experience in managing development cooperation and emergency aid (PCM) projects, as well as managing projects at AA, BMZ, ECHO, DEVCO, EU trust funds and other donors
- Solid knowledge and experience in monitoring and reporting
- Solid knowledge and experience in the field of disaster preparedness and forward-looking humanitarian aid
- Knowledge of the foreign work of the DRK and the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
- Knowledge of the southern African region is welcome
- Empathy and openness to foreign cultures
- Ability to think and work in complex contexts
- Self-employment, strong team skills
- Fluent English, French and / or Portuguese are welcome for business
