Application for industrial exploitation permit for a large gold mine by POURA GOLD OPERATION SA. was examined and adopted by the Council of Ministers on May 3, 2023
The company POURA GOLD OPERATION SA according to the report of the Council of Ministers is a mining company under Burkinabè law, created by the company Poura Resources Limited (PRL) to exploit the gold deposits of the gold district of Poura, located in the municipalities of Poura and Fara, Balé province, Boucle du Mouhoun region.
The requested exploitation permit covers an area of 32.59 km2 and its lifespan is estimated at 10 years. The expected average production is estimated at 11.74 tonnes of gold.
In terms of benefits, this project will generate revenue of 51,351,950,060 CFA francs, for the benefit of the State budget and will allow the creation of 366 jobs including 232 direct jobs and 134 indirect jobs.
In addition, there is also provision for a contribution to the local development mining fund, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 036/2015/CNT of June 26, 2015 on the Mining Code of Burkina Faso, which amounts to 2,956,054,662. F CFA for the duration of the exploitation of the mine.
The implementation of the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for this project will also contribute to mitigating the environmental liabilities of the old mine.
