At its meeting, the Council of Ministers adopted a decision canceling a government decision from 2018 related to the future Belene nuclear power plant, the press service of the Cabinet reported.
On June 29, 2018, the Council of Ministers adopted the decision No. 447 in question, which in turn repealed the previous government decision – No. 250 of 2012, which in turn repealed Decision No. 259 of 2005, on the designation of a nuclear power facility plant at the “Belene” site as an object of national importance and for the construction of a nuclear power plant at the “Belene” site, for conducting negotiations with potential investors and equipment manufacturers, writes BTA.
With today’s government decision, the Minister of Energy is tasked with taking actions to terminate the procedure announced by the National Electric Company (NEK) EAD for the selection of strategic investors for the construction of the Belene NPP and for notifying the preferred candidates for submission of binding offers with a signed confidentiality agreement.
At the end of August, the cabinet adopted a decision according to which “National Electric Company” (NEK) EAD can continue to carry out re-conservation of the delivered equipment for units 1 and 2 of the “Belene” NPP under the technical guidance of the manufacturer “Atomstroyexport”.
At a meeting between Prime Minister Mykola Denkov and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in Athens on August 21, the Ukrainian side confirmed its interest in purchasing the two Bulgarian reactors from the unfinished Belene NPP and their equipment.
