Within the context of the Parliamentary Meeting of the Council of Europe, the State Member of ND Giorgos Stamatis, was appointed because the speaker on behalf of the European Folks’s Get together (EPP), for the adoption of a decision on return of the Varosians to their authorized residents.
Throughout his speech, Mr. Stamatis sometimes talked about that, “for 50 years, Turkey has been violating human rights in part of the island, with the outcome that Nicosia stays to today the one divided European capital”.
He identified that “the worldwide group requires the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the area and the return of the Varosians to their authorized residents” and added that “Turkey, with its unilateral motion to step by step open Varossia, violates worldwide regulation and UN resolutions, attempting to impose a two-state resolution on the island, an answer that instantly contradicts the resolutions of the worldwide group.”
As well as, within the context of his speech, he underlined the next, amongst different issues:
“The current extraordinarily painful experiences of Ukraine and Nagorno-Karabakh are a painful reminder of how fragile peace may be in areas of frozen battle. Our highest obligation within the Council of Europe is to take political initiatives to forestall the re-ignition of such conflicts.
With its unilateral actions, Turkey violates worldwide resolutions and undermines the hassle to realize a complete and sustainable resolution to the Cyprus situation. By this report, a United Cyprus is superior for the advantage of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, with full respect for his or her rights, Worldwide Legislation and the European acquis.
Within the framework of respect for worldwide resolutions and Worldwide Legislation, Turkish forces should be withdrawn from the realm and Varosia should be returned to its authorized inhabitants.”
