Council of Discipline suspends Gerard Sanderink’s former lawyer: ‘Glad he was unmasked’ | Enschede

ENSCHEDE/AMSTERDAM – Lawyer Aldo Verbruggen was suspended for four months by the Council of Discipline Amsterdam on Monday. The suspension is conditional. He received that sentence for his role as a lawyer-researcher in the conflict between entrepreneur Gerard Sanderink and his ex-girlfriend Brigitte van Egten.

Van Egten’s lawyer – Paul Tijam – is relieved with the verdict, which he believes is a rarity in the Zuidas legal profession. “This ruling confirms that Verbruggen misbehaved as an independent researcher for a year,” says Paul Tijam. “My client is happy that he has now also been unmasked by the Council.”

The suspension of four months is accompanied by a probation period of two years. As a result, the suspension has no direct consequences for the cases that Verbruggen is currently handling. The lawyer assists, among other things, former ABN Amro director Gerrit Zalm in a money laundering investigation against the bank.

Tap over fingers

Monday’s case revolves around a dubious ‘investigative report’ that Sanderink had drawn up by one of his former lawyers, mr. Aldo Verbruggen. In that report, Van Egten’s ex-girlfriend is called a fraud, thief, sex operator and even pimp. The report contains hardly any evidence, but a lot of innuendo and assumptions. It has been brushed aside by several judges in previous lawsuits.

So now there is also a slap over the fingers of the Council of Discipline for the lawyer-researcher who drew up the report. In its judgment, the Board of Discipline states that Verbruggen took an ‘opportunistic and misleading’ attitude towards Van Egten. “The council takes this seriously against the defendant,” the ruling reads. The lawyer also ‘knowingly’ ignored the ban on using her private information.

The story about Gerard Sanderink, the Twente entrepreneur who succumbed to the advances of cyber charlatan Rian van Rijbroek, was recently recorded in the book ‘There is only one boss here’, by Tubantia journalist Angelique Kunst. The book is currently at number 51 in the bestseller top 60.
