“As the CDU parliamentary group leader, we were not surprised by Thorsten Müller’s decision.” At Müller, a certain dissatisfaction had been noticeable for a long time, said group leader Helmar Roder when asked. Therefore, he understand and accept Müller’s decision.

Altena – “We have a great team with a lot of specialist knowledge in the group. In each team, however, there are also different opinions and views on how to proceed with certain topics. In a lively exchange, we basically try to clarify differences of opinion internally and to find a common line, ”the statement continues.

It is normal that after a long period of constancy in politics and administration, the new actors must first find each other in their roles and make mutual agreements. “For years, it has been the rule for all parliamentary groups that we are politically active in the interests of the citizens. From our point of view, this also includes controversial discussions in the interests of the matter, ”says the CDU statement. Democracy has a lot to do with diversity of opinion, but also with common rules and majority objectives.

Engagement in Bremen

The CDU parliamentary group executive also assumes that Müller’s decision has to do with the fact that he is also politically active outside the city of Altena. In fact, Müller confirmed that he had been involved in the Bremen CDU for a long time and had promised to support them in the upcoming citizenship election campaign. “I am very happy to help because I once lived in Bremen and see this city as home,” he says.

The CDU Altena is glad that Müller will continue to support them with his knowledge and his professional attitude in the council and in the parliamentary group, it says in the statement, which partly attributes the problems to Corona: “Like all jointly established groups also suffer due to the pandemic, that personal meetings could not take place in the usual way. Personal contact cannot be replaced by our regularly held video conferences. We have become very aware of this once again through the situation that has arisen. Obviously we all lack the interpersonal tones that the written word cannot deliver ”.

The CDU parliamentary group will continue to shape Altena with good projects and ideas and will fully support Mayor Uwe Kober
