The members of the Raplamaa region of the Estonian Center Party were visited on Monday by the chairman of the party’s council, mayor of Vinni municipality and member of the Tallinn city council, Erki Savisaar.
The story came like this Erki Savisaare about the activities in Lääne-Viru County as well as the party’s challenges in the European Parliament elections and forming positions on topical issues. The chairman of the council emphasized that the Center Party must stand up for the people of Estonia both in domestic politics and in the European Parliament.
“People’s livelihood, food security and energy independence are keywords that the Center Party is based on. Undoubtedly, the process of the enlargement of the European Union must be moved forward, but the new member states must comply with the established conditions, and Estonia must also stand up for its own interests in the accession negotiations,” said Erki Savisaar.
As a former member of the Riigikogu and Minister of the Environment, the meeting also focused on the present and future of the car industry. Erki Savisaare’s position is that electric cars are not sustainable and he sees greater potential in hydrogen cars. According to him, the completion of Rail Baltica will certainly contribute to the development of the Raplamaa region. “The state must create conditions so that people can move comfortably, safely and quickly. Rail Baltica will definitely fulfill this goal, and the residents of Raplamaa will be able to move north and south even more flexibly in the future. Looking at the big picture, the fast train connection between Tallinn and Riga creates additional opportunities for both air passengers and leisure time,” said Erki Savisaar.
Chairman of the Raplamaa region of the Estonian Center Party Andres Kalvik said that the meetings with the leading members of the party are extremely necessary in order to create a broad discussion on key issues and to provide an overview of the political situation. “The exchange of ideas with Erki Savisaare was extremely interesting, because he has experience at the local government, parliament and ministry level. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Erki Savisaar will be able to apply his knowledge and ideas more broadly as the chairman of the party’s council,” said Andres Kalvik.
