Approximately 116,00 non-Tesla EV charging stations (plugs) currently exist in the US. Less than 10 percent of those EV chargers are Level 3 fast chargers.
Tesla’s network could more than double the number of Tier 3 chargers for all EV drivers, but it only offers a small percentage of its network, minimizing the benefit to non-Tesla EVs.
Rural states would greatly benefit from Tesla’s full network access.
Tesla recently confirmed that it will open its network to non-Tesla vehicles by the end of 2024, but your contribution will provide minimal benefit to most EV drivers.
The latest study from iSeeCars confirmed that Tesla’s network could potentially more than double the number of Level 3 fast chargers available to non-Tesla EV operators.
However, Tesla will only commit 3,500 of its more than 17,000 fast chargers, or about 20 percent of its total Tier 3 network, limiting access for most EV owners.
The study also lists the states with the most and least EV chargers per capita, and identifies which states would benefit the most if Tesla opened up its entire Supercharger network to non-Tesla vehicles.
