San Francisco 49ers star receiver Deebo Samuel has expressed that he wants out of that team and the Dallas Cowboys would be one of his destinations to consider.
It’s worth looking closely at the idea of Dallas acquiring Samuel.
Samuel told a reporter from ESPN Thursday morning that he wants to be traded out of San Francisco.
According to NFL Media, the All-Pro selection notified the 49ers of his trade request more than a week ago.
Samuel’s Twitter account saw a lot of movement and that’s when the Cowboys entered the conversation.
His account featured an image tweeted by a Dallas fan of Samuel wearing a Cowboys jersey, playing alongside wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
It’s easy to see why Samuel would be drawn to the Cowboys.
In early February, he and Lamb teamed up off the field at the Pro Bowl in Las Vegas, plus they share the same manager, Tory Dandy.
Samuel would be moving from the Bay Area, where the cost of living is very high and includes the highest state income taxes in the country, to North Texas, where there are no state income taxes.
The Cowboys are coming off an NFC East title after losing in the playoffs to the 49ers in part because of Samuel.
If Samuel insists the Cowboys be a landing spot, surely San Francisco will want the 24th overall pick in the team’s draft next Thursday to start.
That means the Cowboys would leave guard/center Zion Johnson, guard Kenyon Green, center Tyler Linderbaum, or any other offensive lineman they desperately need.
Samuel is special enough to have this conversation inside the Cowboys’ offices.
He had 77 receptions for 1,405 yards and five touchdowns in 2021, averaging a whopping 10 yards after the catch.
As a running back, he had 59 carries for 365 yards and eight other touchdowns.
The Cowboys would have to work out a lot of financial and salary-cap issues to acquire Samuel, but anything is possible.
