Could Apple release a battery-powered HomePod Mini?

Your HomePodMini, you thought it could run on battery? However, no. But Apple would currently have or would have had a prototype of this kind in its closets, a HomePod Mini on battery. However, it will not come out right away.

In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman discusses Apple’s plans for a battery-powered HomePod. Although the company eventually scrapped its plans, it’s surprising to find that Apple has thought of a new kind of smart speaker for its lineup.

Years ago, Apple discussed a battery-powered smart speaker internally and prototyped it, but it would be surprising if Apple made the concept official. The iPhone and iPad speakers are pretty good at this point, and commercially speaking, users are better off buying an iPad than a HomePod Mini.

However, if Apple returns to the field of wireless speakers, the brand would most certainly do so under the Beats coat of arms.

It’s important to give some context, as the company recently discontinued its latest battery-powered speaker, the Beats Pill+. Launched in 2018, it was Apple’s only battery-powered speaker launched by the Beats brand, and since the company also discontinued the original HomePod last year, it currently lacks such a product.

As Gurman notes, it would make sense for a battery-powered speaker to return under the Beats brand, since Beats has primarily focused on wireless headphones, and Apple has discontinued several audio products in recent months.
