Cough Children Mild Colds Without Fever May Get Vaccines

JAKARTA, iNews.id – Children still have to get vaccinated even in the new normal time at this time. Including for children who are suffering from cough but not fever.

“Actually the condition of cough, mild cold without fever is not contraindicated for vaccination. So children may cough, colds without fever are immunized,” said pediatrician at Pondok Indah Hospital – Bintaro Jaya, Caessar Pronocitro in a Webinar, Wednesday (1/7/2020).

Doctors have previously carried out examinations in advance to ensure the child’s condition is not in a condition of severe illness. In severe illness, the immune system is active against the pain. So that when given a vaccine, the immune system will not provide enough response to the vaccine.

“Fever markers the body has an infection and try to fight the infection. When the vaccine fever is postponed, we give the immune system a chance to fight infection. For severe illness, if diarrhea is severe such as frequency of defecation, often, first handled the disease then given a vaccination,” said Caessar.

Then, what about children who are taking drugs?

According to Caessar, most drugs including antibiotics have no effect on the vaccine’s potential. Children who are taking drugs may still be vaccinated, but before the doctor checks the child’s condition first.

One of the drugs that can affect the potential of the vaccine is immunity suppressant drugs for a long time. Especially for children who consume this type of drug, the doctor will delay the administration of the vaccine.

“If the child is taking medication, first consult with a doctor. So the doctor can decide whether (this child) may be immunized or delayed,” Caessar said.
