In social media, in paparazzi photos, in metropolitan fashion shows, the once-hidden wardrobe item – cotton boxer shorts – has turned from intimate underwear worn at home into pants worn in public.

The culprit of the trend is considered to be the designer of the “Miu Miu” and “Prada” brands, the Italian Miuča Prada, who offered men’s underwear for women to wear in the “Miu Miu” fall/winter 2022 collection. With super low-waisted skirts, cotton boxer shorts loomed over the edges of the outfits like inflated balloons. And to be socially accepted, decorated with the brand logo. So that everyone is clear who is responsible for this joke.

This joke is perfectly timed – obsession with the irony of 2000s fashion, views on the need to eliminate gender boundaries, sarcasm about the world of luxury fashion. Now not only over the belt parts of pants, skirts, but openly – under transparent lace dresses, in coordinated sets with cotton shirts, blazers, with everything and anything. Wearing men’s underwear in public has become a symbol of subverting stereotypes of everything that was previously associated with female sex appeal (such as lace). They fly like a flag that says that you don’t take yourself seriously, that you mean to laugh and that the opinions of others are indifferent. And, of course, there is no shortage of courage.
