CÔTE-D’OR: Winter equipment will not be mandatory

The Côte-d’Or prefecture confirms what Infos Dijon told you on September 8. However, on some snow-covered roads, the B26 sign will continue to mean that the wearing of chains is compulsory.

Implementation of the decree relating to the obligation to equip certain vehicles in winter in Côte-d’Or

The decree of October 16, 2020 introduced a new article to the highway code which will come into force on November 1, 2021. This provision allows departmental prefects to make special equipment on vehicles compulsory during the winter (from November 1 to November 31). March) in municipalities falling within the scope of the law known as the “mountain law”.

Taking into account the climatic conditions, the topography and the road links of the department, Fabien SUDRY, prefect of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, prefect of Côte-d’Or decided, by decree of October 4, 2021, not to make this winter equipment compulsory in COTE-D’OR.

However, the attention of motorists is drawn to the following points:

– the prefectural decree of the prefect of Côte-d’Or only applies to travel in the department of Côte-d’Or. Motorists should inquire about the regulations in force in other departments for any travel during the winter period;

– The B26 traffic sign will continue to mean that, on snow-covered roads, including outside the winter period, wearing – and not just holding – chains is compulsory. Except for the exclusive wearing of chains specified on the sign, vehicles with the equipment provided for by the new regulations will be deemed to meet the obligation established by the B26 sign.
