This is a study published by the real estate portal Rentola: the website wondered which French departments would be where we would do best in the event of a zombie apocalypse. And the Côte-d’Or is rather well placed.

In the event of a zombie apocalypse in mainland France, there is no need to flee! The Côte-d’Or is well placed to allow its inhabitants to survive. It is, in essence, the summary of the Rentola studywhich ranks all French departments in relation to the chances of survival they offer in the event of a zombie invasion.
Our department climbs to 15th position. It is the first department of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in the ranking, the next being Nièvre in 32nd position. Still in the region, the Doubs is in 92nd place: it is the 4th worst department to be in in the event of a zombie apocalypse. Of all of France, Bouches-du-Rhône is the best department to survive, and Seine-Saint-Denis the worst department.
Two strengths for our department
To make its ranking, Rentola uses five criteria: vulnerability, supplies, hiding places, mobility and security.
According to this study, the Côte-d’Or has two strong points: supplies and hiding places. To score supplies, Rentola compared the number of stores and pharmacies across the territory. And for this point alone, the Côte-d’Or climbs to 6th place in France.
Regarding the hiding places, the real estate website used vacant dwellings, the number of residential buildings, the number of hotels and campsites as indicators. Here again, the Côte-d’Or arrives at a favorable place: it is in 5th position throughout France for this criterion alone.
Regarding vulnerability (calculated with population density, infectious and parasitic diseases, number of general practitioners and daily deaths as indicators), our department is in the middle of the ranking, in 38th place.
Mobility and security are sorely lacking
However, out of the five criteria, the Côte-d’Or has two weak points: mobility and security. On the sole criterion of mobility, Rentola looks at the number of vehicles and the share of households with at least one vehicle to make its comparison. Our department therefore arrives in 93rd place, that is to say one place from the end of the ranking (occupied by… Paris!).
On the security criterion, the real estate portal will compare armed robberies and the number of police stations in each department. Here again, the Côte-d’Or is very poorly placed. It is in 92nd place, two places from the end of the ranking (Gers is in 93rd place and Seine-Saint-Denis in 94th place).
