The prefecture of Côte-d’Or makes it mandatory to declare the possession of even a single pig or wild boar in order to monitor the health of the animals.
Press release from the Côte-d’Or prefecture of 24 October 2022:
African swine fever (ASF) is a contagious viral disease of pigs and wild boars, harmless to humans but with serious consequences for animal health and the economy of the pig industry. There is no vaccine or treatment for ASF.
Present in some European countries and in particular in Northern Italy (Piedmont, Liguria, Lazio) and in Germany, its introduction in France could have serious socio-economic and health consequences for the professional sectors concerned. France is currently free from African swine fever (ASF), but movement of the virus in Europe poses a permanent threat to wild boar and pig populations in France.
ASF can be carried by live animals, but also by foods containing pork or wild boar, by vehicles, equipment and clothing.
The fight against this regulated disease requires compliance with prevention and surveillance measures, in particular for pig and wild boar farmers, hobby pig keepers, hunters and anyone who has traveled to Central and Eastern Europe.
As part of the ASF prevention plan drawn up in February 2022, the state services and professionals of the swine industry are mobilizing in Burgundy-Franche-Comté for a census of all owners of pigs and wild boars present in the area, in particular farms. and farms. In fact, any keeper of pigs or wild boars (professionally, for family consumption or as a pet) must declare and identify their animals. This declaration is mandatory by only one pig or wild boar and must be presented to the EdE (breeding) of the Côte d’Or:
