Côte-d’Or Heatwave: High Temperatures and Storm Alert until Friday

The Côte-d’Or, like a large number of metropolitan departments, has been suffering from intense heat for several days. However, the night from Wednesday to Thursday was a little milder than the previous nights in Côte-d’Or. At 5 a.m. this Thursday, 20.5°C were recorded in Dijon, 18.7°C in Châtillon-sur-Seine and 17.2°C in Montbard according to data from MétéoNews.

The Côte-d’Or, which remains on heatwave orange vigilance by Météo France until Friday 6 a.m., should experience a heat peak this Thursday. Temperatures will remain very high. The mercury should rise to 35°C in the shade during the afternoon over a large part of the department.

Storm watch activated until Friday

In addition, the sun will initially dominate before the arrival of a disturbance. According to Météo France, thunderstorms will circulate over Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and may be locally strong. Météo France has placed the Côte-d’Or on orange alert for thunderstorms from Thursday 3 p.m. until Friday 10 a.m. After this time, the department will go into yellow vigilance.

These storms could be accompanied by hail with hailstones that can occasionally reach 2 to 4 centimeters in diameter, numerous lightning strikes, gusts of wind up to 70 to 90 km/h, even very locally 100-110 km/h and sometimes intense rains that can bring 20 to 40 millimeters of water in less than an hour.

In a press release, the prefecture of Côte-d’Or “invites everyone to remain vigilant and to adapt their outdoor activities to the risks induced by this possibility of locally violent storms”.
