End of the day eventful for the 873 inhabitants of Gemeaux, 25 minutes north of Dijon (Côte-d’Or). They had to remain cloistered at home for nearly three hours this Tuesday, March 30, the time that the gendarmes reason a madman.
It all started around 5.15pm, the Is-sur-Tille gendarmerie receives a phone call from a resident of this village who assures us that he will “kill people.” The man calls back several times and renews his threats. He ends up giving his address to the gendarmes
The soldiers go there in the company of the PSIG, the intervention and surveillance platoon of the gendarmerie. The threat is taken seriously, and residents are required to remain cloistered in their homes. At 7 p.m., the gendarmes received the reinforcement of a dozen men from the GIGN from the Dijon branch. The director of the prefect’s cabinet is also on site.
At 7:50 p.m., the man surrendered without offering any resistance. He leaves his house without any weapons, and is arrested. At his home, there is only his 15-year-old son. The motives of this man are not yet known. He must explain it to the gendarmes.
