COSTEP promotes the economic development of Rio South Texas in a meeting with state authorities, businessmen from Japan, and TxEDC

COSTEP, The South Texas Economic Progress Council met in Austin, Texas, with the Japan Foreign Trade Organization (JETRO), the Texas Economic Development Corporation (TxEDC), the Texas Secretary of State, and the Texas Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

These meetings allowed us to strengthen commercial relations between Texas and Japan, positioning the Rio South Texas region as a strategic point for foreign investment.

The representatives of COSTEP; Adam Gonzalez, CEO; Rick Carrera, director of Economic Development; Rafael Tapia, RSTEF Grants Manager; They highlighted the importance of these meetings for economic development. Carrera highlighted the opportunity to “establish and strengthen our ties with businessmen, organizations and authorities, to publicize the competitive advantages that our region offers for any investment project.” Among the fundamental pillars of COSTEP is the commitment to promote the economic development of Rio South Texas, a region that encompasses seven counties in Texas: Jim Hogg, Starr, Webb, Willacy, Zapata, Hidalgo and Cameron, and has influence in ten key cities from Tamaulipas, such as Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, Matamoros and Miguel Alemán. With the aim of attracting investments that strengthen the local community and generate new economic opportunities.

“This type of strategic meetings reinforces COSTEP’s role as an active promoter in commercial expansion and exchange between Texas and Japan,” Carrera added.
