Costa Rican rider conquers Namur: “His life story is not normal” | Cyclocross World Cup

Felipe Nystrom is not a completely unknown competitor in the Cyclo-cross World Cup, having been there in the US motos early in the season as well.

Nystrom also contributed to some South American vibes in Rucphen and Namur last weekend.

The Costa Rican was taken off course in the closing stages on Saturday, but did not lose his smile when questioned by our flying reporter.

Renaat Schotte was impressed by his way of life. “Not normal”, Schotte said during the broadcast.

This is how Nystrom – his mother has Scandinavian roots – lived on the streets for a while.

“I’m happy to be here,” he laughed. “Unfortunately, cyclo-cross does not exist in Costa Rica. I want to ride all the heats, but I pay for my participations myself and I have to work to be able to participate.”

“I will drive in Dendermonde next Sunday, then return to Costa Rica to work and to save money. Then I can participate in the World Cup in the US at the end of January.”
