The cruise manager and CEO of the Costa Group, Michael Thamm, has left the company with immediate effect. The Hamburg manager joined the shipping company in 2012. Right at the beginning of his time at Costa, Thamm had to deal with a catastrophe.
In a letter from the president of the British-US parent company Carnival Corporation & plc, Josh Weinstein, it is said that he thanks Thamm for his years of work and wishes him the best for the future. The head of the world’s largest cruise company did not give any reasons for the surprising separation.
The accident of the “Costa Concordia” also happened during Thamm’s time with the group
Thamm’s position – Chief Executive Officer of the Costa Group – will not be filled. Instead, the heads of Costa Cruises and Aida, Mario Zanetti and Felix Eichhorn, will report directly to him in the future, according to Weinstein’s letter. Several media had previously reported on the personnel on Thursday.

Thamm has led the group since 2012. Among other things, he had the “Costa Concordia” damaged off the Italian island of Giglio salvaged. The accident in January 2012 killed 32 people, including twelve Germans. He also had the world’s first LNG cruise ship built, the “Aidanova”. The annual general meeting of the group is scheduled for April 21st. (mp/dpa)
