Mexico City. In October 2024, the cost of the food basket in the urban area of the country rose 5.6 percent compared to September of the same year, increasing from 2,224.83 pesos to 2,349.71 pesos, according to updated information from the National Evaluation Council. of the Social Development Policy (Coneval).
In the case of rural areas, the increase in the cost of the food basket last October was 5.3 percent compared to September, as it rose from 1,701.52 to 1,791.69 pesos
Coneval updates the value of the food basket monthly using the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) calculated and published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
For the month of October, the cost of the food basket has grown every year at least since 2017, when in urban areas it had a value of 1,491.7 pesos and 1,130.92 in rural regions.
The data show that the cost of the urban basic basket grew 57.5 percent from October 2017 to the same month in 2024, while in rural areas, the increase was 58.4 percent.
