Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko made history as the person who spent the longest time in space, spending 878 days on the International Space Station (ISS).
WHAT KONONENKO GAINS FROM SPACE
Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, despite being 59 years old, spent 878 days and 12 hours in space, surpassing Gennady Padalka, who previously held the record.
SPACE DREAM HAS HAPPENED
Kononenko has traveled to the International Space Station five times since 2008, completing these long-duration space missions with careful preparation and dedication. However, he stated that he flew into space not to break records, but to realize his childhood dream of becoming a cosmonaut.
LIFE AND FACTS IN SPACE
Kononenko said that he exercised regularly on the space station and appreciated his experiences in space, and that he realized how much he missed his family and loved ones when he returned to earth. In particular, he emphasized that the days spent in space were irreversible and that important moments in his family’s life were missed during this time.
KONONENKO’S LAST JOURNEY
Cosmonaut Kononenko’s last space mission was with Russian cosmonaut Nikolay Chub and NASA astronaut American Loral O’Hara. The trio reached the ISS on September 15, 2023, aboard the Russian spacecraft Soyuz MS-24, launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
ONGOING WORKS IN SPACE
Kononenko continues his space research at the International Space Station, where he is currently located, and remains resilient to the challenges of life in space.
