Gifted in special effects, the Russians will blow your mind with the new science fiction film Cosmoball which has just been released on Blu-Ray and DVD.
Influences from Star Wars, movies Marvel, d’Avatar and even Valérian seem blatant in the trailer for the new Russian sci-fi movie Cosmoball. Capable of achieving impressive digital special effects almost at the level of American productions, it is unfortunately very often the scenario that fishes in Russian productions. If all the time you are ready to try the experiment, this new blockbuster has just been released on Saturday January 9, 2021 in Blu-Ray and DVD at the publisher First International Production. As a bonus, the film is accompanied by a making of 32 minutes.
Cosmoball takes place in 2071 as the galactic wars caused a climate catastrophe on Terre following the destruction of the Moon. New York is now stuck under the ice and tropical forests have invaded much of our planet. In this post-apocalyptic world, aliens have installed a huge spaceship in a city that serves as a stadium where aliens and humans compete in matches of Cosmoball. A sport mixing ball game and fighting in which the young earthling Anton will try to illustrate himself thanks to a super power that he still has to master. But by integrating the team of Earthly gladiators, he had no idea that he was engaging in a confrontation which would determine the fate of the Terre.
Although this is a Russian film, Cosmoballs is freely adapted from the Spanish cartoon Champions Spoon. This is the new film written and directed by Dzhanik Fayziev, producer of the series To The Lake sure Netflix and movies Frontier and Mermaid, The Lake Of Lost Souls who directed the film War Zone also released directly on DVD in France in 2013. With a budget of 786.4 million rubles or 8.67 million Euros, Cosmoball was shot between June 2 and mid-September 2017. Initially scheduled for Russian cinemas in January 2019, the film had to be postponed due to the producers’ financial difficulties. It was ultimately the first blockbuster to be released after the lockdown period causing it to fail in theaters due to viewership restrictions and overall negative reviews.
The main roles of Cosmoballs were entrusted to Yevgeny Romantsov, a Russian athlete who makes his debut here in front of the camera and to the actress Viktoriya Agalakova already known in France for her roles in Mermaid, The Lake Of Lost Souls, The Bride and To The Lake. They are accompanied by Maria Lisovaya who played in the movie Gosti ; Evgeny Mironov who played in Titanium and The Spacewalker and Elena Yakovleva seen in the movie The Crew.
