(ANSA) – CORTINA, 04 MAY – Cortina d’Ampezzo could join the small group of experimenters of snow preserved in the summer, protected by thermally insulating sheets, to maintain the white gold of skiing from the end of spring to the beginning of following autumn. A practice, snowfarming, used in some parts of the world to protect glaciers from the heat, and in Italy already used in Livigno for the cross-country track. A possibility that Ista, the Cortina-based company that manages the ski lifts in the Tofana-Con Gallina-Falzarego area, is now also looking at. The company – reports the Corriere del Veneto – is waiting for a green light from the Region to start the project. The ‘snow’ in the fridge won’t arrive this summer, therefore. The objective – explains the president of Ista, Alberto Dimai – is to be able to experiment with the coverage of snow accumulations at high altitude from 2025, with the hope of already having snow available in November to trace sections of the track on Col Gallina, the station that often anticipates the start of skiing in the season leading to the 2026 Winter Olympics.
