On Monday, the hospital received the last order for healthcare equipment financed by the Marie Do.
Thanks to the funds collected, the association was able to buy a treatment chair for chemotherapy, a transfer chair and a blood pressure monitor for an amount of €5,622.63.
This funding falls within the framework of the annual call for projects. Each year, patients, families and hospitals are asked for the necessary needs to improve the comfort and care of patients within the hospital or home.
Last year, Charlotte Lhomme, director of Corte-Tattone Hospital, led the project: “The creation of the day hospital has enabled patients to no longer travel to Ajaccio or Bastia and to stay close to home for treatment. The quality of care is the same and we follow established protocols. Today, more and more patients continue to receive their care at Corte and therefore require more equipment.”

Catherine Riera, president of the Marie-Do association explains: “We are always in contact with hospitals in order to make our contribution to investments that will contribute to better care for patients. This is very important because it is a question of meeting real needs.”
The director of the hospital adds that new projects are to come, such as the renewal of the chemotherapy hood, the development of an outdoor garden or even the extension of the hours of access to the day hospital.
Review of the year for the Cortenese branch
Since its inception in October 2020, the antenna has been productive. Ten events were organized with its partners, sixty people joined the association, twenty-three patients benefited from the relief fund and in total, it collected €28,577.

Mathilde, beneficiary of relief funds testifies: “I joined the Marie-Do cause two years ago as a volunteer. Unfortunately, I developed breast cancer. My gynecological follow-up was in Marseille and the concern was to find accommodation near from the hospital. There were no more therapeutic apartments available and Marie Do helped me find accommodation in a senior residence five minutes from the hospital. The bill was very substantial and thanks to the emergency funds , the association covered half the cost of my stay over the two months. The Marie-Do really helped me. I am from Corte, and today I go every week to the hospital in day for chemotherapy. The nurses take great care of us, everything is very well organized, care is fast and there is regular discussion with the doctors.”
Relief funds are financial assistance that helps to meet the costly expenses generated by the disease. They participate in accommodation and transport costs so that patients do not find themselves in difficulty.
Marie-Hélène Zuccarelli, representative of the Marie-Do branch, emphasized the dynamics and commitment of the volunteers: “There is a real recognition of the population towards the association, everyone feels concerned. Last year, Corte was the branch with the most members.”
She also insists on the support of the Marie, the Crous, the University and the FabLab.
Each year a Golden Heart is awarded to personalities who have made a commitment to the association. This year, at the request of Marie-Hélène Zuccarelli, the Albertini ironworks designed the Cœurs d’Or and donated twenty of them.
Boules competition and associative walk
The representative of the antenna then announces the upcoming events.
On April 20, a boules competition is organized by The cortenaise ball who undertakes to donate the collected donations to the Marie-Do.
The second edition of the inter-company walk will then take place on May 14. This year the sponsor of the walk is Guillaume Peretti, one of the first to commit to the association.
He reveals: “I have been involved with the Marie-Do for sixteen years. Today it is a story that continues. I relayed the information to the island running clubs. This is part of my values as a sport, to set a good example and to offer visibility to these associations.”
Marie-Hélène Zuccarelli adds: “Each company or association has the possibility of registering one or more pairs of participants.”
