In the second part of the VOL.AT interview, corsage mime Johannes Rhomberg talks about the discussion about the film that broke out around the Teichtmeister cause.

The Lustenau-born actor is also a member of the cast of the film Corsage, which hit the headlines.

Film and Causa Teichtmeister should be viewed in a differentiated manner

However, he spoke to VOL.AT in favor of a strict separation of the artistic reception from the scandal surrounding the Teichtmeister cause.

VOL.AT: What do you think of the debate that has erupted around the film? Should the work and the discussion about allegations against an actor be strictly separated from each other?

Johannes Rhomberg: I really think it should be separated. Teichtmeister is only part of the cast and not the film. Over 300 people from all over Europe have worked on it, and that one of them is now guilty of a terrible crime, neither the other 299 nor the work should have to pay for it. I wouldn’t think it’s right to give him the power to drag this wonderful film down with him.

VOL.AT: Do you think that director Marie Kreutzer already knew something before the allegations became known?

Johannes Rhomberg: No, of course not. And besides, when the allegations first came up at the end of 2021, the shooting was already finished, the film almost finished editing. In other words, she would have had no more options for action. Just like the Burgtheater, it fell victim to the swindle of a person who wanted to use all his might to buy time until his house of cards collapsed. That’s understandable as a human being, but it doesn’t speak for his character.

According to Rhomberg, the film should be viewed independently of the Teichtmeister cause.

Rhomberg: “Some stage themselves in the cause as moral apostles”

VOL.AT: What do you think in general of the discussion about the cause that has flared up in the media?

Johannes Rhomberg: I find it strange, to say the least, how some people stage themselves or allow themselves to be staged as moralizers, some media agitate against the cultural scene as a whole, or even construct any conspiracies. This pleasure, this malice, which is felt in some articles and comments – that says more about the author than it contributes to the processing of the case.
