The investigation by American prosecutors, again in the Fifagate case, showed that bribes had been paid to former CBF president José Maria Marin through Abrahão companies. There is also evidence of suspicious property transactions between the businessman and Del Nero, in addition to the accusation, made by the CPI in 2001, of overpricing of tickets for the CBF. Abrahão’s companies continue to provide services to the entity in other fields, operating the majority of Brazilian football transport.

Del Nero and Teixeira are not the only ones bothered by Ednaldo. There are leaders, in the CBF and in football, who say that he failed to comply with political agreements, bogged down the entity with centralization, is inconsistent with campaign promises and harms them in management. Alongside Ednaldo, there are names like Ricardo Lima, who heads the Bahian Federation and is his brother-in-law, and Gustavo Vieira, president of the Espírito Santo Federation, who became CBF’s financial director.
Criticism of Ednaldo’s management
Ednaldo studied accounting and, at CBF, he made it the presidency’s job to evaluate invoices and budgets. One day, he looked at a seven-day travel budget for the Brazilian women’s team. The document provided for US$35,000 spent on laundry. The president asked to find a cheaper supplier. “I’m with the CBF and people know that I’m a present president,” he explained.
O UOL He heard from people who lived with Ednaldo that this characteristic makes each decision take time. They understand that it is not up to the president of an entity that raised R$1.072 billion in 2022 to check small expenses. There are, for example, protests over expenses not paid by the CBF of R$238 (for a laboratory) and R$1,069 (for a butcher shop).
