Every time Corrie opens her balcony door, the smoke billows deep into her house and into her lungs. With all its consequences. “That is very bad. The doctor in the hospital told me that himself,” the 90-year-old tells her story. “I want to be able to live my last years peacefully. But I have no life.”
It even goes so far that Corrie sets the alarm at night so she can get some fresh air. One evening during her nightly adventure she does not get well and falls hard. Viktor therefore disapproves of her getting out of bed in the middle of the night. “I have to, what else can I do Viktor?” she laments.
The neighbor in question, Jolanda, sees it all very differently. According to her, she doesn’t smoke much at all and moreover: what she does on her balcony has nothing to do with Corrie. She therefore does not intend to give up her cigarette: “She doesn’t have a leg to stand on. I pay rent, it’s my balcony. You can smoke, that’s in your lease,” she says angrily. In addition, Jolanda is convinced that her neighbor is suffering from the upstairs neighbour’s cigar.
In the meantime, not only the steam, but also the smoke from the ears of the women. That is why the presenter travels to Capelle aan den IJssel to smoke the pipe of peace. And he doesn’t do that alone, but with Bart Beuving – who will fill in as a judge this week.
Corrie wants Jolanda to stop smoking on her balcony, but according to the judge there is no ‘unlawful nuisance’. However, he is of the opinion that the smoke is bad for Corrie’s health in the evening and that is why Jolanda is not allowed to smoke outside on her balcony between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. If she does, she must pay 50 euros each time.
