Correlated and Not Random, Scientists Formulate When Natural Disasters Occur

LONDON Natural disaster on earth is now happening more and more frequently, and the worst of the earth’s population is not able to predict precisely when a disaster will come. Experts begin to calculate when a disaster or natural event will come to avoid casualties.

The journal Geoscience Frontiers writes that Earth’s geological activity appears to follow a 27.5 million-year cycle, which makes the planet pulsate, according to a new study.

“Many geologists believe that natural events is random over time. But our study provides statistical evidence on common cycles, showing that these geological events are correlated and not random,” said Michael Rampino, a geologist and professor in New York University’s Department of Biology.

As quoted from New York University, Sunday (20/6/2021), the team analyzed the ages of 89 major geological events that are well dated over the last 260 million years. These events include sea and land extinctions, large volcanic lava outpourings called basal-flood eruptions, events when the oceans run out of oxygen, sea level fluctuations, and changes or reorganizations in the Earth’s tectonic plates.

They found that these global geological events generally cluster at 10 different time points over 260 million years, grouped in peaks or pulses approximately 27.5 million years apart. The most recent cluster of geological events occurred about 7 million years ago, suggesting that the next major pulse of geological activity will be more than 20 million years in the future.

The researchers posit that this pulse may be a function of the activity cycle in the interior earth – geophysical processes related to the dynamics of plate tectonics and climate. However, similar cycles in Earth’s orbit in space may also accelerate this event.

“Whatever the origin of these cyclical episodes, our findings support the case for a largely periodic, coordinated, discontinuous geological record, which is a departure from the view held by many geologists,” explains Rampino.

Euler’s theory is relevant, but not everyone is convinced by it. In 2013, Yingjie Xia, a researcher from the Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics in Wuhan, China, theorized that the source of the 26-second pulse was volcanic activity. The theory also makes sense. The origin of the signal is close to a volcano on Sao Tome Island, and there is at least one other “microseism” elsewhere in the world that has some similarities to this one.

Earth is the only inhabited planet. But concerns began to emerge, whether earth This beautiful place can guarantee a safe and decent place to live in the future. The state of our earth today is quite alarming. But there are no signs of repair commensurate with the damage. You need to know, if the earth where we live is already in a critical condition.
