Kronfle was elected president of the National Assembly on November 17, 2023 and his position was scheduled to end in May 2025, when the four-year period corresponding to the then dissolved National Assembly will be completed in May 2023 amid a political crisis over the former president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso.
Lasso decreed the constitutional figure “crossed death”, after which he asked to call early general elections, in which the president Daniel Noboa was elected. Veloz was sworn in as the new president of the National Assembly before the second vice president of the Legislature, Eckenner Recalde, of the ruling National Democratic Action movement (ADN), during a plenary session and in accordance with the Organic Law of the Legislative Function.

Within the framework of the transition of authorities, the National Assembly is pending the designation of Veloz’s replacement in the first vice presidency.
“Correismo”, as the Citizen Revolution Movement is called, is the first political force in the Ecuadorian Congress made up of 137 members; However, its 48 seats are not enough to be a majority.
