A large forest fire hit Serra do Mimo, in the municipality of Barreiras, western Bahia. The flames appeared on Monday afternoon (18), but were extinguished this Tuesday (19), according to the Fire Department.
Around 12 military firefighters are already monitoring Serra do Mimo. The military began sweeping to avoid possible new outbreaks.
The western region of the state is suffering from a heat wave, with temperatures close to 40ºC. The reason for the heat is the presence of an extremely hot air mass, which will cover Brazil in the coming days.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued an alert for low humidity in most of the country. A territory that covers almost the entire Southeast and Central-West and part of the Northeast, North and South is on alert.
