The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Cármen Lúcia, called on voters to participate in the first round of municipal elections next Sunday (6), when mayors, deputy mayors and councillors. will be selected.
During the High Court Main Panel session, the minister emphasized the importance of voting for democracy and citizenship.
“Look, vote. Voting is necessary, voting is your expression of active and participatory citizenship. This is necessary so that we can continue with constitutionally established and civically active institutions, ” he said.
The first round of elections will take place on Sunday. More than 155 million voters are eligible to vote.
According to electoral rules, only cities with more than 200,000 voters, where candidates for mayor do not reach a majority of votes (half and one) in the first round, can compete in the second tour, which is scheduled for October 27.
There is no second round for the dispute over councillors’ positions. According to the TSE, 103 of the country’s 5,569 municipalities may have a second round.
