Coronavirus: when Leclerc pushes its customers to stock up

Empty shelves? As the coronavirus epidemic spreads across the country, the French are flocking to supermarkets. If hydroalcoholic hand gels are out of stock everywhere, the shelves of pasta, rice and canned goods have also been taken by storm. For fear of being forced to remain confined, the French stock up on food. And some brands have also decided to play on this fear. This is the case of Leclerc de Lanester in Brittany, as observed by The Telegram.

To anticipate demand, the store manager has rightly decided to highlight all non-perishable products that are of particular interest to his customers in these times of epidemic. Thus, the pasta and rice packages are now clearly visible in the central aisles or at the top of the shelves. A surprising sign has even been added. “Perhaps we should store pasta and rice”, we can read at the shelf level. What push customers a little more to make reservations. For now, the director of Leclerc Lanester assures the regional daily that there is “no rush observed despite the coronavirus”. Only hydroalcoholic gels are out of stock.

No risk of shortage

It must be said that the region is particularly affected by the coronavirus. Several cases have been detected in Morbihan, involving specific restrictions on the population. “Customers buy a lot of products such as rice, pasta, oil, rusks and other low-perishable products. We are delivered normally, I have no concerns about that”, said Pierre Ollivier, boss of the Leclerc center in Lanester in West France. The latter also indicates that protective masks will be provided to employees, but that for the time being “there is no restriction on the reception of our customers, and the store is operating normally”.
