Lhe number of people carrying the coronavirus hospitalized in Belgium continues to decrease, with 649 hospitalized patients, including 45 treated in intensive care, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated on Friday morning.
From January 20 to 26, the country’s hospitals admitted 43.3 Covid-19 patients daily, a number down 17% from the previous week. Currently, 649 people carrying the virus are hospitalized (-19%). Of these, 45 are treated in intensive care (-20%).
Between January 17 and 23, an average of 340 infections were recorded each day, down 21% from the previous seven days. During this period, nearly 4,500 tests were carried out daily (-16%), of which 9.3% turned out to be positive.
Every day, an average of 4.1 people died from the consequences of coronavirus infection (-48%). Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium in March 2020, more than 33,600 deaths from Covid-19 have been recorded.
The reproduction rate of the virus stands at 0.88. When it is less than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down. The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 46 over 14 days.
