The Italian authorities confirmed to APA on Sunday evening that around 300 passengers on board the Venice-Munich ÖBB train at the Brenner would be waiting for the onward journey to Munich. The South Tyrolean civil defense was involved in order to provide support – mostly Austrians and Germans – to the APA police in Bolzano.
Train from Venice to Munich en route
The passengers could disembark because the Italian health authorities had not restricted their movement, the police said. The Eurocity 86 had left Venice on Sunday afternoon and had stopped in Verona after two German passengers noticed fever symptoms and a severe cough. The two women were then screened for coronavirus in a Verona hospital, but the test was negative. The train then continued, but was stopped again at the Brenner. Another train that should have left Brenner could not start the trip, the police reported.
It is still unclear when the train can continue and what should happen to the passengers. The case in Rome would deal with the authorities, it said.
