The effective number of reproductive coronavirus infections has recently risen again, according to a model calculation published by the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) on Monday evening.
An effective number below one indicates that infections are on the decrease. According to the current state of knowledge, the increase that has now taken place should be at least one Clusters in one mail distribution center each in Lower Austria and Vienna be traceable.
This seems overly dramatic in view of the now significantly lower cases. In some federal states there were not a single new corona infection for days. If a few new cases are found here, an “increase rate” only appears artificially “dramatic”. In Lower Austria and Vienna, reproduction rates of 1.3 and 1.15 (on May 15 each) sound worse than the number of people who tested positive at just under or over 40 on that day.
Interpret fluctuations with great caution
According to the experts, the interpretations must always be made in conjunction with the epidemiological curve. An approximation of the effective number of reproductions to one means a constant number of new cases per day, but does not provide any information on the level of the incidence of the Covid-19 cases. In some federal states, the number of cases of incidence (newly determined; note) is very small, so fluctuations in the effective number of reproductions should be interpreted with great caution.
0.8 in Upper Austria
The AGES specialists, who work with statisticians from Graz University of Technology, are now only protecting the number of reproductions from a minimum of twelve cases per federal state. For this reason, estimates are missing for some days in comparison to the previous publication. Therefore, there are currently no such data for Salzburg, Vorarlberg, Burgenland and Krnten. Fr Upper Austria was calculated 0.8, Styria 0.7 and for Tyrol 0.85.

The crisis team of the state of Upper Austria reported 25 active patients across the state on Monday. There are currently no registered cases in six districts: Wels, Braunau, Eferding, Grieskirchen, Schrding and Vcklabruck. There are currently ten patients in Upper Austria’s hospitals, two in the intensive care unit. So far, the country of Upper Austria has confirmed 2,282 infections.
