From April, the capacity to supply vaccines to the Czech Republic should increase significantly. According to Sunday’s statement by the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, up to 100,000 vaccines could then be vaccinated daily.
If this were to happen, then from April 6 to 16, approximately the same amount of benefits would be given as from the end of December to the present day, the Novinky.cz portal informed.
“The main goal is for us to have empty freezers by April 1, so that we can run to a capacity of 100,000 vaccines a day on April 6,” Babiš said in his regular appearance on Facebook.
About 40,000 doses are currently given daily. Vaccination accelerated at the turn of February and March. In February, they vaccinated 15,000 to 20,000 people a day. To date, 1,068,683 doses have been administered. Both benefits were received by 298,176 people, Novinky.cz wrote.
In the coming weeks, the current pace is threatened as supplies will be cut short. AstraZeneca said it would deliver only 40 percent of what it promised. Next week, 9,600 doses will come to the Czech Republic instead of 16,800. A week later, only 10,867 vaccines instead promised 88,000.
Prime Minister Babiš called on hospitals to use bamlanivimab. According to him, it was administered to 300 patients and taken to 40 hospitals. According to him, this is not enough. 3000 doses of this drug were imported to the Czech Republic.
“The problem is that the ministry has allowed this substance to be applied to narrowed-down indications, at-risk patients, and it would need to be expanded,” he said. The ministry should reconsider its approach and promote the drug.
Bamlanivimab prevents a difficult course and is infused after infection mainly to people who have, for example, cancer or are having a transplant and are taking immunosuppressive medicines. It should prevent them from going seriously. The drug prevents the virus from entering the cells, the Novinky.cz portal added.
