Coronavirus surges 3,700 cases in one day, Wuhan is in dire need of beds

The peaks of the epidemic coronavirus 2019-nCoV go higher and higher, and in Wuhan, where she was born, the logistics of caring for tens of thousands of patients can no longer keep up … The lack of structures, and especially of beds to accommodate them, has become glaring only fifteen days after the quarantine of the immense metropolis and a good part of its Hubei Province, in central China.

Hu Lishan, a senior city official with 11 million residents, did not hide it from the official media, he mentions a “serious shortage” of beds but also an urgent need for “equipment and materials”. The transformation of a dozen public buildings, gymnasiums, cultural centers, into places for the accommodation of patients is not enough, any more than the construction of the famous large hospital with a thousand beds in ten days, a prowess yet praised by propaganda.

3,700 more infections in one day

The establishment “revolutionary” has barely entered into service last Tuesday, that another, with an even greater capacity, of 1600 beds, should open its doors this weekend. But the legendary Chinese work capacity is not even up to par, as the contamination accelerates. To date (Friday February 7, 2020) there are 31,161 cases precisely and officially across mainland China, ie without Hong Kong and Macao. 3,700 additional cases emerged on Wednesday alone, a spectacular leap.

240 people are infected elsewhere in the world, in around thirty countries. The death toll rose to 636 on Friday, still in mainland China, to which must be added a first death to Hong Kong, and another in philippines. Note however that the mortality rate from this new viral pneumonia remains around 2%, according to scientific experts, below that of SARS, which raged in 2002-2003.
