Coronavirus: soaring cases at sea

75 cases confirmed on Wednesday are a daily record in Pomerania (so far it was 53 cases). This figure may come as a surprise when compared with last week’s low nationwide number of cases. Apart from the record-breaking Saturday, this one rarely exceeded 40 cases and did not stand out from the wave of cases in Silesia and Małopolska.

According to the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Gdansk, most new cases concern the capital of the voivodeship (27 people). There were also new cases in the poviat of Lębork (11 people) and in the poviats of Puck (8 people), Wejherowo (7 people), Kartuski (7 people), Gdynia (7 people) and Sopot (2 people).

Coronavirus in the port. A new fire

Two outbreaks are the main cause of the disease. One thing came about weddings in the Kartuzy poviat, the second one was a sailor’s fire that broke out in Gdańsk. We are talking about a ship in the port flying the Bahamian flag. So far, only one of the sailors has been hospitalized. The shipowner will decide whether the rest of the crew will go ashore. There are no Poles on board the ship.

As Wirtualna Polska found out, the ship’s crew had been on the ship’s inspection since June. This means that the infection with the coronavirus occurred in Poland.

The WSEZ in Gdańsk emphasizes, however, that the majority of cases in Pomerania are the result of family gatherings and returns of the inhabitants of the region, returning from other parts of the country. Sanepid reminds that staying at the seaside is safe, provided that the sanitary regime is respected.
