The president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, together with the Foreign Minister, Óscar Maúrtua, met this Friday with the Russian ambassador to the South American country, Igor Romanchenko, to study the possible ways of producing vaccines against COVID-19 in Peru.

As reported by the Presidency of Peru in its social networks, the meeting has served to “discuss the Sputnik V supply schedule, strengthen cooperation and examine vaccine production options.”

Already on August 20, the Peruvian Government announced the signing of an agreement with the Russian Investment Fund for the acquisition of Sputnik vaccines in order to inoculate about ten million Peruvian citizens with two deliveries, as recalled. the local newspaper ‘El Comercio’.

“The Government of Peru is pleased to announce the signing of the Sputnik V Vaccine Supply Agreement with Human Vaccine LLC, a subsidiary of the Russian Fund for Direct Investments,” said the statement from the Peruvian Ministry of Health.

This portfolio has reported in the last 24 almost 700 new infections of coronavirus and ten deaths due to the disease. In this way, there are already more than 2.1 million people who have been affected by the virus in Peru since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the same way, the report of the Peruvian Ministry of Health includes that there are already 198,115 people who have lost their lives on account of COVID-19, according to the local radio RPP.
