Coronavirus. Quarantine for travelers from outside the Schengen area. Statement by Deputy Minister of Health Waldemar Kraska

From midnight, a 10-day quarantine will apply to people coming from outside the Schengen area, said Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska. Fully vaccinated persons will be exempted from this obligation, he informed.

Waldemar Kraska said at Wednesday’s press conference that there are reports of the emergence of more mutations, much more infectious than the “more classic” coronavirus, and that is why a system for monitoring these mutations has been launched in Poland.

He emphasized that the information received daily shows that the number of these new mutations is also increasing in our country, and due to the fact that these new variants spread more quickly, it was decided to take appropriate preventive measures.

– We are restoring the quarantine for people coming from abroad. The quarantine will apply to people coming from countries that are not in the Schengen area and do not belong to the European border area – said Kraska.

He informed that the quarantine will apply from midnight on Wednesday, it will be 10 days, but after 7 days it is possible to be released from it in case of a negative test result. He stressed that this action is aimed at protecting Poles against new variants of the virus.

Fully vaccinated persons are exempted from quarantine. In addition, the deputy head of the Ministry of Health said that children under the age of 12 will not be quarantined. According to the information provided by the deputy minister, they will also not have to undergo tests.

“All Borders”

Changes to the quarantine regulations Health Minister Adam Niedzielski announced. – We will be quite strict about the countries from which the transit or entry can be (implemented – ed.) In the convention we have at the moment, i.e. (it will be – ed.) The possibility of being released (from quarantine – ed.) Right away within 48 hours. This is one group of countries and we will probably want to limit it only to the Schengen area, said the head of the Ministry of Health during Wednesday’s press conference.

The health minister added that the second group of countries are countries for which “we will probably apply the standard ten-day quarantine solution, where you can release only after seven days, provided that the test is performed.”

Asked whether the new rules would apply to all traveling to Poland, or only to air passengers, the minister replied that this applies to “all borders”.

Travel from Great Britain

From Wednesday, travelers coming to Poland from Great Britain and Northern Ireland are subject to a mandatory seven-day quarantine, from which only a negative result of a test performed not earlier than one week will be released. The regulation introducing such a rule was published on Tuesday. Fully vaccinated persons are exempted from quarantine.
