(Belga) Moderna and Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines should remain effective against the Indian variants of the coronavirus. This is shown by American research, which has yet to be confirmed.
The research from NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYE Langone Center indicates that the antibodies produced by the vaccines perform a little weaker against the Indian variants, but that would not have a major effect on protection. The researchers took blood samples from people vaccinated with Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, the two most important in the US vaccination campaign. They then exposed the samples to a synthetic virus with the mutations first identified in India. The researchers found that some antibodies no longer worked against the variants, but that there was still enough left to keep the vaccines effective. The laboratory research has yet to be confirmed by real-world studies. (Belga)
