ORISTANO. On the day in which the mayors decide that the time has come to march towards Cagliari, the San Martino hospital experiences another day halfway between the paradoxical and the dramatic. The emergency this time only touches the newly reopened emergency room and where eight covid patients are hosted – one or two more and the door can again be closed to any other type of urgency and request for care that is not related to the coronavirus – . Everything moves a little further and it is the Medicine ward that risks collapsing.
The medical department had been a sort of powder keg ready to explode for some days. The fuse was lit when the positivity of an hospitalized patient was found. He had arrived from the emergency room in San Gavino where he had been subjected to a rapid test, not a molecular swab, which had certified negativity to the covid. Wrong result, as happens for rapid tests, and so the covid took the plunge and entered the ward with the highest number of patients in the entire hospital. At that point, the sweeping checks began and unfortunately the outcome was nefarious: the infected are 27, of which 20 among patients, 1 among doctors, 3 among nurses, 3 among social health workers.
