More than 6,000 passengers and crew members traveled on the liner. When one of the guests was diagnosed with the coronavirus, other passengers were tested.
Almost all of those infected were fully vaccinated. A total of 95% of those on board received the vaccine. It is not yet known what strain of coronavirus people have contracted.
Royal Caribbean regulations require all travelers 12 years and older to be fully vaccinated and test negative prior to departure. The company also “strongly recommends” getting an extra dose of vaccine before traveling, but this is not required for now.
Unvaccinated children must show a negative PCR test and must also take a rapid test at the terminal before leaving the liner.
Infected individuals were reported to be either asymptomatic or mild. All went to quarantine.
The company emphasizes that this event did not affect the further cruise schedule.
